Default My first and last attempt at an Age-of-Sail model

Eric bought a Langton miniature quite awhile back, and wanted a USS Constitution. (Of course, his wish is my command. )

I started it over a year ago. With Rory's guide and ever slow progress, and with many mishaps along the way, it is now finished. Yeah!

And this is why I handed over the modeling to Sue.

    Beautiful work, Love.

First and last?!?! I know you enjoy figure painting so I suppose warships may not be your thing, but you did an incredible job for a first attempt!

I'm glad it is your last, means if I ever get around to painting any of my own, I don't have to worry so much about them looking way worse then your first attempt!! Great work Sue!

Great looking model! Eric doesn't have to send seals in to Long Beach harbor after all! Oh dang, still no Victory.

Sue, your first attempt is better than my last attempt. Really nice work. I hope you change your mind and do another.

Thanks very much for the compliments, everyone.

I am happy with how the ship turned out. This model just had too many parts to assemble (I'm a wimp when it comes to assemble, and too much a perfectionist). The rigging just about sent me overboard. I enjoy painting minis and will continue to do so, just not models with parts-need-assembly.

That's funny - you've been trying to remake me for years.

    Oh! Sue,
It looks great. Hats off to you. I would say don't stop the next one will be easier. Get Eric to put it together. If he wants the ships he can do that for you, himself. You would be a lose if you stop ship building.

Oh that's a nice looking ship Sue, I've painted one...just one so far and that was a manufacturing error from Ares with two mainmasts. Still havent rigged it yet or put up the ratlines, so your first one in a year beats my half a one in two years by miles..and your paint job is much nicer..and you have flags...oh bugger...

    Very Nice Sue!

The Langton Models did me in too - TWICE!! (Back in the early 90's and again a few years ago - so I figured I have to stop buying them, fiddling, then selling them off cheap unassembled or half-assembled) - so Great Work if that's your first effort! Great Models but too much hard work for meer wargamers...

    I've managed to stay afloat.

Now, I am going to try convincing Sue to add some pirates to our fleet.

Sue, you did a longshot better than I would've--I'm so fumblefingered I'm considering looking for somebody to outsource rigging my SGN fleet to.

Very nice job Sue. Especially for your first ship. It does get easier I promise. And everyone has different methods they develop. Just do what works for you. And please don't quit.

    Hi Susan.
I was just looking for the Medal urls to get on with the ones you just completed for me and quite accidentally came across this thread which you produced whilst I was more involved with the Wings side of things.
That is a very impressive model. Not only as a first one but for any effort at any time. It is a great shame that it is your only example of your obvious talent in this line of work. so much so that I felt it worthwhile to resurrect the thread for the edification and enjoyment of our other shipmates who may also not have seen it.
    Rob.
The Business of the commander-in-chief is first to bring an enemy fleet to battle on the most advantageous terms to himself, (I mean that of laying his ships close on board the enemy, as expeditiously as possible); and secondly to continue them there until the business is decided.
