This is a piece of blue panne fabric from Hancock Fabrics. It cost $15US for a piece 9 feet by 5 feet. The texture can be brushed to look like waves, and it has a slight sheen to give that ocean look.

Is that the Crushed Royal Panne?

That's really nice. I like it better than the blue felt I have.

I just approved a file for an ocean mat: http://sailsofglory.org/downloads.php?do=file&id=90

Very nice indeed! And I would bet that due to the texture the ships don't tend to slip much on the surface?

Jörg, thank you for the link. That is quite cheap as well as sizable. I am going to order a few to have on hand. These will be so easy to take on the road.

They look nice, but I'm not so sure about the $69 price, especially for an ocean mat. A piece of felt does just as well and cost significantly less than that at Jo-Ann Fabrics.

Very nice! I'm probably good on mats for now, but thanks for the link.

Yeah I'm with you. Too pricey. I'm good now with my piece of vinyl, until something better comes along at the same price. Just thought I would throw the link out there for the folks with lots of loot to spare.

If you carry out a Google Images search, you will find that this table cloth is widely available.

    Interesting company name, Vol.

For straight ocean, I am not inclined to spend much. If a mat had channels, coastline, shore batteries, towns, etc., I could see paying more, but for straight ocean, blue felt or something like what Jörg posted is hard to beat. The SoG mats are nice given the wind attitude lines. I met some guys who are printing mats, and they do look good. There is a lot of potential for WoG given land targets, etc. The terrain there can make a difference regarding scenario creation.

I know for Origins next year, I want to tape down a mat for the convention and forget about it until it is time to leave.
