Default 1/1200 ships as small vessels

I was wondering if some of the 1/1200 ships might look good alongside the SOG ships. We have a gap between the frigates and the sloops and was wondering if a 34 gun frigate in 1/1200 might work size wise as a 20 gun corvette or something similar.

Anyone seen pictures of the ships side by side?

I think the only shots I've taken are between the SoG 3rd rates and the 1/1200 1st rates? I know there's been discussion of using some of the 1/1200 merchant ships in SoG games as we have no idea if or when Ares will produce those particular ships?

Typical British post-ship would be 33-37m length on gun-deck, or 33-37mm in 1/1000. Some of these ships had quarterdecks and forecastles, others were flush-deckers. A 1/1200 38-gun runs about 38mm, while a 32 would be about 32mm. This just flanks the range... for length you'd want a 1/1200 36-gunner, but there's still the question of "shape".

    Hi,
This is what happens when you only have one maker of only one off the wall scale. You are handy-caped with only a small number of ships. I hope Ares make more ships and fast.

Re my prior, even a 36 would be in the upper end of the size range.

    We all do.

A friend is purchasing our FLGS. I hope to start running WoG and SoG games there. The broader the ship line, the more options for play and the greater potential to recruit players, that is if SoG can compete against Magic.

Airborne, I have used Pirates of the Spanish Main ships for merchants in two cons, and nobody seemed to care. Some mentioned that it was nice because the ships were easily identifiable. I imagine using 1:1200 ships would not pose a significant problem.

I have a 1/700 scale frigate (Portsmouth miniatures) I used for the treasure ship objective in my Treasure Ship scenario.

Well GHQs 20 gun French corvette is a flush deck ship.

So I'll just have to find a flush deck 30 couple gun frigate in one of the lines.

Problem is, the only FD 32's I know of were a handful of Neapolitan ships--virtually everything else used the time-honored model of "26 bigger bores on gundeck, 6 smaller on QD/FC".

How much larger does she look compared to a similar Ares ship?

I guess you'll get the same effect like when one shoots film using miniature models to create effect of high speed...
