    Default Another Two Converts....

A couple of my friends popped round yesterday for tea and cake. Catriona and Ian have played various types of wargames before and the last time they visited I got them into WGF. This time (being good maritime engineers) they wanted to give SGN a go. We fought a SoL action using a combination of basic and advanced rules. A good time was had by all; Ian's '74 succumbed to the combined broadsides of my ships as Cat found herself out of position, but Ian's ship did manage to cause heavy crew casualties to one ship, and heavy hull damage to the other before he struck. Cat then swept in for the kill and captured both my SoLs in short order. They left happy (Cat more than Ian, but both enjoyed it immensely) and they reported this morning that a large purchase of stuff had been made via the internet last night.

The best way to "press-gang" new crews, David.

    Well done, David.

Two new players, and a large purchase to boot. I had a similar experience with WoG - felt like a proud new papa.

Good! But could you please write more of the set of rules (mixed basic and advanced) you used for the beginners (or you use them usually?), David? I am about to have a session with newbies (but active sailors) and it could interesting to know your way.

I used the Standart Rules to introduce two newbies (me included).

We played with single cards for movement (tried two cards, they preferred singles - they are sailors, btw), ammunition types, sail settings, boarding. Didn't use special damage.

Did you use crew actions? I have not used 100% advanced rules yet - leaving out the actions and adding house rules for sail setting changes. I also include sail damage so that there is some advantage to using chain or firing high.

We used sail setting actions, also reloads (obviously), rigging and steering damage but not fire and flood
