Some notes on this excellent reference.

    1) The "orange" stripes for "Holland" are actually varnished wood, so I prefer a fairly bright brown.

    2) Not sure if the original article is available somewhere. It has been expanded to a booklet by Rod Langton. See http://www.rodlangton.com/napoleonic/booklet.htm
which has some color plates, along with lots of painting and rigging details.

    3) Standing rigging (tarred rope) should be in black, as the Trochim article says. And the reference above shows a picture of the way Langton does it. Adding this greatly strengthens your model.

    4) If you insist on adding running rigging as well, this should be in fairly light brown (untarred hemp rope).

Hmm. Noticed this is in "Historical Discussions" when I closed off. Isn't this better placed in The Chippie Shop?

There is a fine line between Historical discussions and the hobby side, to nit-pick.
We are discussing historical colors etc.

Giving this a little more thought (hard for me), Niek is right. This is more about the hobby than history.
So, with apoligies to Niek and a request to the Royal Hajj, please put your cutlass in this thread and move it to the Chippie Shop.
