A friend gave me these photos of a trip he took to see the USS NJ. I have to take a trip up there myself.

I have never toured naval ships other than the German U-Boat at the Museum of Science and Industry. I look forward to Sue and I doing so in the future. Since joining the 'Drome and Anchorage, our desires to see military museums has increased. Pictures like these strengthens that desire. Thanks for sharing, Bob.

    Thanks for those pictures.

Something to add to my 'Bucket List' would be a tour of Nauticus in Norfolk, VA. Specifically to visit the USS Wisconsin. http://www.nauticus.org/exhibits/battleship-wisconsin

When I worked at the Wisconsin Historical Society I actually got to carry the USS Wisconsin's silver punch bowl across campus to a big retirement celebration. I believe most of this set is still in Wisconsin, but some is also at the Hampton Roads Naval Museum (including both BB9 and BB64 sets).

Jim I have pictures in an album of the Naticus and the Wisconsin. It was a great visit. If you do get there take the harbor tour because it is well worth it. I was glad I made reservations for the day we went on the tour. There was a group from a DD that was also on the tour. Had a great time talking with them and seeing Norfolk from the water.

Thanks for the photos and the advice on touring Nauticus! Some day for sure.

I know not from the era of the site but here is a picture I took at Norfolk of the USS Enterprise being dismantled. I can say I saw a proud named ship on her last voyage.

From your location I would recommend getting to the Niagara and the maritime museum in Erie PA. Check her sailing schedule though sometimes she stays on the lakes during the summer and she may visit Chicago!

Checked out a place to go and the USS Olympia is across the river from the NJ. I have been going to air shows and museums but now I will have to find the ships to see.

There is going to be a games day held on the Olympia next year. No details yet, but see this prior thread:

That should do rather well. The weekend con held on the USS Texas does well each year. It would be nice to see a con on one of the aircraft carrier museums.
