The Business of the commander-in-chief is first to bring an enemy fleet to battle on the most advantageous terms to himself, (I mean that of laying his ships close on board the enemy, as expeditiously as possible); and secondly to continue them there until the business is decided.

David, there's a Swedish classic book (from 1945) about a viking called Red Snake (Röde Orm). The main character had been a galley slave. He was bent over his oar and his beard was worn by the oar. "...av alla sätt att ansa skägg, brukade han säga, var detta det sämsta." "...of all ways to trim a beard, he used to say, this was the worst."

Years ago I owned a 14’ boat for sea fishing. My ex (Ann) was no fan of the hobby and buying the boat caused a certain amount of friction. So obviously I called it ‘Annie Mossity’. That didn’t improve matters. Sadly I no longer have access to pictures of it.
