I posted some pics of ships from my trip to Canada this year. Went to the muesum of the Atlantic and you can see some of the models they have.

LOL Yep we better drink quick... it can only be a matter of time before we all get busted back down in favor of a more drawn out rank system...

Ah, you remembered what happened at the Wings of War site.
    Let's down a few in a hurry.

    Well done snotties :)

    Snotty

In Royal Navy slang, a midshipman is sometimes referred to as a "snotty". Two popular stories give origins for the term: the first claims that it arose due to a shortage of handkerchiefs among midshipmen, who would consequently use their sleeves to wipe their noses. Prince William, later William IV, is sometimes cited as a notorious example of this practice among midshipmen. The other story claims that the three buttons formerly sewn onto midshipmen's jacket cuffs were placed there to prevent them from wiping their noses on their sleeves.

Thanks for the update on being a snot, err, I think. ;)

Now if we follow true naval tradition, once obtaining Flag Rank, that is, Captaincy, barring disaster the path to Admiral is fixed by seniority alone. Guys what this means is, and please don't tell anyone, first in best dressed - the thousands of SOGers to come will never be able to catch up!

    Well that's my theory :)

Given that it was possible to be a midshipman for one's entire career if one botched one's lieutenancy exams....

They tended to have different status in the Royal Navy of that period. Still had Boatswain and mate. Master Gunner, Master, Master's mate. Carpenter, and mate. Leading hand. Sailmaker. etc.
