Your Rememberance is what we call Veterans day here in the states. People here are confused and ask why the flag is not at half staff on Veterans day. Memorial day if to honor the dead who gave their lives for what we have today and Veterans day is to honor all veterans. I organized a Vet get together at work in 2011. On the 11th hour of the 11th day in 2011 there were about 50vets that gathered where I work. Most don't knopw that that date is when the Great War (WWI) ended.

Yes, Veterans Day was initially Armistice Day celebrating the end of World War I, it became Veterans Day after WWII (1954). Good history for Veteran's day here:

By the way, June 14th is Flag Day in the US, and it's also the birthday of the U.S. Army. A very important day to Soldiers!
