    Default Norfolk navy base

Went down to Wings Over the Beach and Friday did a harbor cruise of Norfolk harbor. Was a great time on the tour ship. Posted a few pics.

Here is the USS Enterprise as she sits being taken apart. I have to add more of the photos to the album.

    Nice photo Bob,
Is she being refurbished or de-commissioned?

Thanks for the picture(s). I wonder if/when we'll see another Enterprise, on the water that is.

Currently undergoing inactivation, removing all 8 reactors, decommissioning 2016. CVN 80, the 3rd of the Gerald R. Ford class of carriers, will be named Enterprise, ninth American naval ship to bear the name.

And that won't be till the mid to late 2020s... A long time to go in a shipyard somewhat far away.

At the air show someone told me that a SSN will be named Enterprise. The carrier is being scrapped because of the nuke reactors. They have to cut the hull open to remove them so she will be scrapped. 51 years of service. I wish the bridge could be spared and made into the centerpiece for a museum.

Interesting that the first one was a British sloop, the George, captured by Benedict Arnold and renamed the Enterprise - one of the most famous ship names in the U.S. Navy and one of the most infamous names in U.S. military history.

It was a very nice day but the next day it rained so the air show was a slight bust. Making plans for this Oct. May do another harbor cruise from a different area so see different things.
