Category:
History

Paperback
Summary:
A straightforward historical account of the rise and decline of piracy. It covers the ubiquity of privateering, and how it was often impossible to tell the difference between the two. The book is a little on the dry side for such a rich subject of popular lore, but the approach serves the reader well, dispelling many of the myths (no pirate ever made prisoners "walk the plank"), and sometimes providing a very good account of life aboard a pirate ship.

Thumbs up. It's not a rip-roaring read that will keep you up at night, but if you want to get behind the myths to the real history, this is a good place to start.
