    Default Ahoy the Ship

    Greetings from the Eastern Med,

A long time RPG'r and a bit of a war-gamer, this is my first time planing on playing with "proper" miniatures.

In RL I had some experience with Naval activity, but I hear the EW and ASW capabilities of Napoleonic SOL where not so great

From my little touring of the forums this looks like a good happy place to learn the ropes...

    Happy Sailing

    Avi

Actually EW was pretty good...shoot your cannons...create smoke...consider the enemy 'jammed'. And as for ASW, how many Napoleonic ships were successfully sunk by subs? I'd say their ASW capabilities were spot on.

    Ahoy and welcome!

The avatar is the "Athlit Ram" found off-shore of Athlit (duhh...) an ancient sea port in Northern Israel (between Caesaria and Haifa)
Its dated between 530 BC and 270 BC and by its

    http://www.hms.org.il/Museum/Templat...=1196&PID=2949

I heard somewhere its the only one found of that period, or maybe found intact (but that could just be scuttlebutt)

Hi Avi welcome to the Anchorage. That is a damn impressive avatar, nice to see the real thing. Do you know if this is Greek, Roman or other?

Thanks for the information Avi. It looked familiar, but I couldn't put my finger on it. There was a TV series some years back where a man wearing a kippah showed something about that.

The Ram is Greek (ish) its from the period but they are not sure of its real origin.
The rest of the ship (apart from some wood directly attached to the ram) was not found.

On the ram are some decorations amongst them Poseidon's trident - they are similar to decorations on Cypriot coins of the period.
