I'm quite sure this is never going to happen, but clashes between Austrian and Turkish river flotillas on Danube would be nice to see.

USA's a done deal coming in Wave 2, so as important as it is to note the Dutch role in naval history I really gotta go with the Spanish to fill out Trafalgar some more.

Link - just a picture. Sorry about that.

PM anything you want me to research. I need to reload the pictures in my albums. Once done, feel free to ask for anything from any of them.

I picked up a copy but haven't read it yet. When glancing through it, I felt the author was making excuses for the navy. Is it worth the time to read it all?

Eric, PM inbound--I should note that most of my problems are design details and technical arcana--I'm trying to sort out future sculpts, and leave the stats and special rules to those more knowledgeable in cultural, doctrinal and institutional matters.

I definitely want to see more American ships released, and I think the Constitution is the best place to start with that.

Voted Spanish, but, seems like most other people did too, so, since the US is pretty much guaranteed, I would go for bringing the Dutch in, since they were also very heavy users of ships.

    I vote for Spain ...

Having said that I don't see why Ares needs to restrict production to only one country

Go American at the same time

Pity the poll can't handle "Australian balloting"; then it'd be an easy matter to remove the Spanish and see who copped the most 2nd-place votes.

After those planned Spanish ships there should be a Spanish frigate and the Santissima Trinidad special. That might not be fully represented, but no other nation is represented fully. I think it would be acceptable.

As Spain is on its way...... Eventually, my second vote would be for the Dutch navy, I have some french hussars just itching to capture a few frozen ships :)
But as the Dutch were one of the big four Naval powers during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic wars I think they would be a great addition to the game, in my humble of course

If they do Spain properly, and then the Transports, I don't expect to be around for the Dutch or Russian Fleets at the time scale we have at the moment.

There were indeed some very colourful and innovative Privateer colours being flown, and of course the Barbary, and Malayan Pirates etc were still very active in late 1700s, so I am not ruling them out exactly.

I would like a pirate Xebec. Jack Aubrey captured a Xebec frigate in one novel.

An interesting resurrection Alistair, because since this was mooted, and with our connections to Aries via DB and Dave Manley we know know a little more about the constraints of manufacturing really small craft. We are not likely to see anything smaller than the sloop of war I feel. For luggers, patrol boats and schooners I generally go to Langtons.

The Business of the commander-in-chief is first to bring an enemy fleet to battle on the most advantageous terms to himself, (I mean that of laying his ships close on board the enemy, as expeditiously as possible); and secondly to continue them there until the business is decided.

Frankly, I think they CAN do smaller models, it's just that the game system doesn't well support them and it'd be a very labor intensive process.

Here's how Rich Baker did PT's in 1/900 for Axis & Allies War at Sea:

A one-piece casting, with the boats molded integrally with the clear plastic base and painted. Adapting this to Sails would mean a new lid-piece with two or three generic small vessels, could even use the same hulls for all nations and just plug in brig-rig or schooner-rig masts to suit.
