From what I've seen so far, it shouldn't make much difference which way stock SoG ships lie in a case. If one adds rigging, ratlines, etc., that's another story.

It's always good to hear from someone who can think outside of the box. I never thought of anything larger than the WoG trays. But a longer tray to hold the heavy mats and the light ships above them...
