Edit: Oops too late!
Any update? I haven't seen them available for pre-order yet at the Anchorage store, and was wondering if I just was looking in the wrong place, or there has just been a slight delay. I'm not...
I've never tried it, but I know products like "blacken-it" are made specifically for blackening brass model parts without obscuring detail.

Yes Eric, 3M and Avalon Hill published a Regatta game in 1967. Good game, although diagonal movement on the square grid was much faster than orthogonal movement.
Not much resemblance to the recent...
Perhaps a slightly more acceptable version would be to allow the straight veer 5 taken aback card to be used any time a veer 5 card was selected while in irons, but any turning maneuver on the 2nd...
Well, I'm suggesting yes they really do. :steer:
I did admit many would consider it madness to complicate the maneuvers further, but I've missed my tack enough times when out sailing that it just...
Fred - thanks, that is exactly it.
Tim - It sounds like the way you were instinctively playing the game is pretty much the same as the house rule I've proposed. It just makes more physical sense.
That is exactly what this variant is intended to model more closely. Even with this variant tacking is ordinarily still possible for every ship, but now wind shifts, battle damage, poor crew quality,...
Just posted this on BoardGameGeek too:
I know there have been some complaints that it is hard to learn to maneuver the ships at first, and there has also been some misunderstanding on how the red...
Agreed that hexes would fix the slippage problem, but you lose some of the subtlety of movement that makes this game interesting. Hexes only allow six facings, so every 60 degrees, or at a stretch...
I was just thinking about posting something related when I saw this thread. Has anyone tried either match racing or fleet racing?
I'm thinking of racing ships of the same class so the capabilities...
I personally like smaller craft, such as sloops, cutters and schooners. These seem a bit small, and roughly modeled in 1/1200 from the photos I've seen, and I expect they will show up a bit better...
Thanks to both of you for that. I had looked at the Kickstarter page but the list was unclear. This time around I noticed the link to the checklist showing exactly what is included at each level. ...
I only today got my pledge reward. The ships all look great, and there is quite a bit of other stuff in there too. But I think I'm missing a terrain pack and some smoke markers at least. It has...
You had quick hands, you mean.
True, and makes musket fire poorly defined too!
Hmmm. Maybe use the hull to define the target for the purpose of setting the firing arc, but use the base to define target distance?
Of course!
b) is the obvious solution! :shootleft: :salute: :shootright:
I still like the idea of shooting at the ship rather than the base for other reasons, but for this glitch simply ruling...
That does seem like a glitch. Not sure how to resolve it within the rules as written.
A couple different house rules I've seen proposed about firing arcs would solve it, although they weren't...
I suggest setting the depth of the shoal, but rolling a "fudge" die (+,-,0) or two, to modify the depth slightly as each ship attempts to cross the shoals. That simulates the idea that shoals do...
I'm still in the running for last.
I do have a tracking number but it shows my shipment sitting in customs for since morning of 21 January, and I have been unable to get any further update so far. ...
Yes please. I want to see schooners and cutters!
also yards.
11 July please
Not received mine yet. I have a tracking number and it shows the package in UK customs since Tuesday 21 Jan. No estimate of delivery, and I don't know how long that should take. I've had no...
I'd like a set for captain's pledge as well. When do these go on pre-order?
I still don't have my shipment from Ares though - tracking shows it as stuck in customs since the start of the week!
