Okay ... so I'm a tad confused by the current 1st Rates basically get around 7 chits for a broadside, and a 3rd rate can also get 7, or at least 6.
Shouldn't a 1st Rate have considerably more...

okay, got it, thank you guys. I've been grouping crew actions and crew together and not including hull damage in with the calculation. This makes sense.
SO if I may get this straight in my own head:
If a ship has taken 4 HULL and 2 CREW damage, you determine crew actions according to the 3rd (uncovered) crew box.
If a ship has taken 2 HULL and 4...

I think this is an interesting scenario and we had similar only the other week. Perhaps you always have to hit the center mast of your target vs. "the base" in order to determine firing arcs?
We totally have not been playing with the "worst of two tracks" approach. I did not read the rules that way at all on any read through and nor does it seem to make any sense to me.

We dropped the collision damage also after two games. We keep the entanglement chances plus then you have to back sails to get away from eachother. This alone is a penalty enough for the collision we...
I posted a thread about continuous fire a short while ago along the lines of "um, WHY would you not do it?" and this would be one good reason. I like where it is going in concept.

I'd be interested in crunching the numbers on that edge case. While 7 v 1 is certainly quite daunting, what if those 7 were effectively useless?
