Maybe in the formula are things like crew quality of the ship for the specific date implemented?
This is a possible point why the ships have so different damage comparing their broadside weight...

Afaik if you buyed the models from 12-7 games the you should get your replacement from them, if you got your models directly from ares the they will sent you the replacements.
