Interesting snippets of information Vol. Thanks for raising the matter.
Apart from the 1805 document, I wonder where the dress code mentioned in the text came from. I understood that most clothing came from the slop chest, and each Captain clothed his men very much to his own tastes and pocket, tending to lavish more attention on his Gig's crew than the OS.
I have no evidence of uniform regulations, other than that for Officers until after the Napoleonic Wars were over. If any of you shipmates know otherwise I would love to hear from you.
