Bumped.
OK Eric, I just placed my bid. You can quit bumping now:wink:
There should be many bids. This is a steal.
6 days to go. The bids will come.
I think Erik bumped this just because he's a nice guy.
I have plenty. So I'm letting others get a chance. I agree the bids will come.
I'm watching too. I've decided to try for the 3 French SOG SOLs he is auctioning.
Hi all, new arrival at the Anchorage here.
Having just purchased the starter set for myself and my 6 year old daughter i am interested in buying some ratlines for the four starter ships.
Do the ratlines on sale via this thread fit the starter ships?
If not how does an Englishman such as myself purchase ratlines without getting hammered by the post office charges?
Cheers for any help given.
Hi Steve. Welcome to the Anchorage. Yes, these ratlines are meant to fit all of the ships in Wave 1, including the Starter Set. Having applied these to several ships now I will tell you that the brass is pretty delicate to work with. I think sometime in the near future Keith will be looking at supply stainless steel ratlines for Wave 1 and Wave 2?
An option you may wish to investigate, and save yourself some postage in the process, is using Rog Langton's brass ratlines. He's in the UK. http://www.rodlangton.com/napoleonic/frame.htm
Due to the scale difference you'll need to apply the larger ratlines to the ships and if I recall correctly even the 3 decker 1st rate ratlines from Langton are too small for the Sails of Glory 74 SoL's. Hope this helps?
As far i know they fit, the ratlines have the correspondent numbers for the models.
In the starter set are the models SGN 101 to SGN 104 so 1 of each from the first wave.
So the ratlines should fit.
Cheers for the welcome guys.
Ive pm'd you ed, your a star for offering the sample!
Now to reclaim the seas for Britannia!
Being a Portsmouth FC fan, im a devout HMS Victory disciple. Its SOLs for me lads.
Speaking of our beloved Vicky, is she to be available to all, or only to the lucky kickstarter contributors?
To all.
Im off with my daughter to take her around Victory tomorrow. Hope the weather gage is in our favour.
Ed, I am not bidding, but when I approved the thread, I bumped it so others would see it; often moderated threads get lost due to more recent posts. Regardless, if I ever become aware that we are both bidding for something, actually that is true with any members here, I will bow out. The hard part is knowing because the bids don't provide full usernames, and usernames aren't always common across sites. So if you're ever going to bid on something, feel free to let me know.
I hope members here win.
Cheers, i hope to. My daughter is set on me painting my terpsichore as the black pearl.
Any painting recommendations? Im also thinking of washing the sails of my other ships.
Hi eric. Yes ive seen a few examples whilst lurking over the last few weeks.
Do the ships take paint well? Or do they require undercoating?
I like using a light coating of Citadel's Seraphim Sepia to give the sails a nice weathered look.
Eric, I did put a bid in. If I do win I'll use them as prizes for games I play.
Very cool, Ed. I need to start collecting prizes if I am going to start running tourneys at our FLGS. I have stuff for WoG; I think I might still have stuff from the SoG KS. Hmmm, maybe I should have a variety of prizes from which the winner can choose - books for readers, ratlines for modelers, ships/shore batteries, etc. for players.
They do take paint well and if you use acrylics even more so. If you don't like the results, a second coat works wonders.
I've not yet stripped a ship down completely, but that's something I'm trying right now as it turns out. Using "Simple Green" to see how it might work. Cheers.
Thanks jim. Its your avatar of your black pearl that i aim to emulate. Superb work by the way.
Any tips on that paint scheme?
Thank you Steve. I just used what I had on hand for the Pearl. Go with bone white on the deck (brown wash over it), yards and hull are black and the sails were dark grey with a black ink wash over them to make them look torn/worn. The masts were probably a Confederate rebel gray and fighting tops are black. A No. 2 pencil run over the gun barrels will make them look metallic.
The ship card and logs, if you want to go the whole nine yards, were done by "Mr. Roberts" and should be in the file section? Or just look through the "Pirate" thread. I think Captain Jack Sparrow's flag is there too?
