If anyone in NE England wants to get a flavour for the period I can recommend a visit to The Historic Quay at Hartlepool where the HMS Trincomalee a frigate of 1817 is open to visitors.

Trincomalee is definitely worth a visit. Liz and I went for a tour a few years back, and took the kids a couple of years ago whilst we were staying up near Hadrian's Wall. The Historic Quay is almost as interesting as the ship, since it tells the story of all the supporting services, stores, outfiters, recruiting etc. that kept the Royal Navy going in the 1700s and early 1800s. The Wikipedia pic of the ship is one that I took on our first (very wet) visit
