Guys, I'm trying to work up a timeline for every rated ship that might be a potential candidate for inclusion in SoG, basically all the Western World's Ships of the Line, Frigates snd other capital ships from 1650 to 1815 (the limits Andrea has described).
Where I need your help: since I'm treating reflags and renames as the same entry and visibly-different rebuilds as different, I need to use color codes to represent who owned a ship at any given time. I have a few selected, but need help filling out the rest...
So far, here's what I have.
United States: White text, dark blue background
England/Britain: Red text, white background
Spain: Red text, orange background
Denmark: White text, red background
Austria: (would be white-on-red, but the RN already got that)
France:
And, what other countries should I be keeping track of, along with suggested color palettes for them? Since I'm working in an Excel spreadsheet, I only have two colors available per cell, which I'm using one column for each month of the 1650-1815 period. Currently, with only the headers, using nine-point Agency FB (narrowest and smallest semi-readable font I know), it's twenty-eight 8-1/2x11 pages with 1/2" margins across; my intent is that users be able to hide every timeframe outside their particular "slice" of interest, then hide every ship not extant during that time or not sailed by a participant in whatever conflict, so you can just print out the section that concerns your individual wants at that moment. Gameplan is to start with only the classes Andrea has confirmed for SGN Series 1 and classes he's shown prototype cards for listing their complete rosters (omitting uncompleted ships), then fill out the spreadsheet starting with First Rates and then working down from there.
Anybody up for helping me help the community on this one?
