USS Vixen was captured at sea by the Royal Navy 36-gun frigate HMS Belvidera, Captain Richard Byron, on 25 December 1813 while sailing from Wilmington, North Carolina, to Newcastle, Delaware. She was without her armament or stores and had been planned to be armed with 14 guns. She had been purchased by the U.S. Navy at Savannah, Georgia in December 1813.
