Hardback Summary:
1793 wat the time of "le terreur" in France. Some cities in the south of France opposed versus the reign of the Jacobins in Paris. The city of Toulon with the most important French military habour was handed over to a British Fleet. Over 30 ships of the line and 15 frigates were captured.

Angry by this prestige loss, revolutionary french forces tried to recapture the city with their new fighting spirit, but failed.

By chance a depute-en-mission orderer a young officer named Buonaparte to command the siege artillery of the revolutionary troops, that was in a bad condition.

The most intersting part of the book is, how Buonaparte reorganized the artillery, worked out bombardement plans and retook the forts of Toulon. Interesting details are contained, too. For example, how it's possible, that a few cannons on the coast could force the retreat of a whole enemy fleet with masses of cannons and bigger calibers.

A nice informative book in German language.
