Greetings all,

Has anyone worked up any house rules on being Hove to? I'm think one could either heave to from acking sails (or potentially any sail setting?), and when heaving to would be an immediate action. When hove to, one would not use maneuver cards but would still be affected by any current or drift rules played. I would continue to plan maneuver cards while hove to, but would not use them until returning to a normal sail setting. Coming out of being hove to could be a delayed action, taking place at the end of one's turn, otherwise I think this may be a too powerful tactic.

Would appreciate other's thoughts on the subject or if you've tried anything similar.

Best,
James

I treat heaving to in the same way as anchoring, excepting that getting underway again starts without a delay for raising the anchor.

Thanks Rob. Can you heave to from battle sails/full sails, or do you play it only from backing sails?

James

We use only Backing Sails Jim. Then when you reset the trim we starst from stationary and work back up to speed each turn.
