HMS Amelia closes with the coast just out of range from the forts in the small hours of the morning.

Reducing speed, her cutting out crews take to the ships boats towing astern.

With muffled oars they head for the harbour.
Amelia comes about to avoid being spotted when dawn breaks.

As the crews pass the forts on the headland this triggers a card to be drawn from the deck of incidents. Luckily they are not spotted by the sentries.

As the boats approach the boom, they hear muffled sounds from the Picket boat as it heads away from them.

With the draw of another card they force the boom without being spotted.

Working their way stealthily across the harbour the boats approach their objective.

The boats split forces, with one going alongside the Alligator, whilst the Marines and the rest of the sailors approach the Courageous.

The Alligator is subdued without any problem, but the Courageous crew are disturbed. This triggers another card to see if a fight ensues.

Fortunately the crew are overcome without sounding the alarm, and both ships anchor cables are cut and sails set.

Both ships head for the harbour entrance just as false dawn breaks.

As the light improves, they are spotted by a lookout in the tower on the harbour wall.

As the two ships pass the forts, Captain Kiwi flys a French flag to try and fool the gunners.

The ploy fails and the ships come under fire which they return.
