After reading Eric's post in Historical forum last week I read some more on wikipedia about Stephan Decatur. I was very interested in his story and this book looks like a good read. Thank you for the review and recommendation Bobby. You are an asset to this great site. :salute:

a fascinating person, and definitely someone whose star shone brightly, perhaps a little too much so. The loss of the President certainly seemed to affect him somewhat.

I will pick this up for just this reason. As you and I discussed on PMs, this book has some interesting and conflicting reviews on amazon. As soon as we finish it, we can do a book review and start a discussion there. Could be interesting. As with the War of 1812, I doubt most Americans are aware of the Barbary wars and what they entailed.

What interests me are the religious overtones and the story told in that light which is relevant to the period.
