Greetings!!

I thought I’d introduce myself with my most recent model, HMS Pandora, 1791. She’s fully scratch built.

The hull is basswood, masts are brass, and the sails are linen paper.

Ref the Pandora, what did you use/ how did you make the ratlines in 1/1000 scale ?

Speedbird

Thanks everyone,

The shrouds are photo etched stainless steel.

That then raises the question of where you obtained such items of desire Joseph.

Sadly they’re long since out of production.

Capn Duff

Ah, thats a shame, the only ratlines available , unless home made, are from Langton miniatures and are 1/1200 scale

Speedbird
06-23-2019, 05:04
The difference between 1200 and 1000 would be unnoticeable. I’m sure the Langton offerings are quite nice

Bligh
06-23-2019, 08:26
I know Chris has a comparison table written down which reduces the Langton 3 deckers to fit the 74s and so on down the sizes with amendments for different ships, but custom made ratlines would be the only way to even get me started thinking about the possibilities of rigging my ships.

Rob.

One might also consider cutting down 1/700 shrouds. I’ve done this before and the results are arguably better. Had I not on hand enough 1/1000 shrouds for 2 ships I would have gone the route of using 1/700 scale pieces. They’re extremely fine and with the fineness, the slightly wide spacing isn’t noticeable. My 1/900 Erebus and Terror were rigged with 1/700 shrouds. Had I not mentioned it, no one would have ever noticed.

Thanks.
That sounds more like a starter to me Joseph.
What do you think Chris? You have done the most with fiddling shrouds to fit.

I have many more, but the rest are all quite a bit larger at 1/700 scale

Scale is not anything to debar you from displaying your ships Joseph. We are always keen to drool over another shipmates work.

As for the ratlines and cutting down 1/700, I would need to have a go and see, does anyone have an idea where to obtain these and the cost ?

Extremely beautiful models!

I wish I could make such a beautiful piece of art!

I'm a little confused about the sails of HMS Pandora though. It might be the shades of white that makes me blind to it, but...
Is she running on a port broad reach? Is the clew of the jib on the port side of the fore staysail and isn't the spanker very much centered for that wind?
