What's your nearest large body of water (big enough for sailing ships)? I'm close to Lake Michigan.

The North sea, about 80 miles from where I live. Apart from that there is Rutland Water which is about 30 miles south.

From the nürnberg area you need to drive to:

The Channel - 850 km
North Sea - 650 km
Baltic Sea - 650 km
Mediterranean Sea - 650 km
Adriatic Sea - 650 km

Good central position - but not for ships.

The North Sea is about 25 miles (about 40 km) to the East of my home.

If I stand at the window I can see the Thames Estuary, pretty much at the point where it becomes the North Sea. Chatham is about 35 miles to the west and the North Foreland 15 miles to the east. Surrounded by AOS heritage!

Similar bit of the Bristol Channel to Captain Duff. We also have the Sharpness Canal heading up to Gloucester running next to our lower field so we'll have the tall ships going past up to the festival soon :)

I currently live as about as far as I ever have from the Pacific Ocean, 40 miles. I miss the smell of salt air when I lived a couple of miles from the ocean.
