This was recently posted on the Boardgame Geek website. Looks like many events for Wings and Sails alike, including 3 attempts at breaking existing World Records. I've always wanted to attend Origins, but getting a downtown hotel is becoming as problematic as it is for Gen Con. So another year I won't be attending. Cheers!

Nice one from Ken, Jim.
It is nice to keep up with what our bretheren are doing at Origins.
now we know what photos to look out for.

As I just posted on Boardgame Geek this morning I wish they could do something similar for Gen Con? For the size that Gen Con is there's a really poor showing of events for Wings, and this year absolutely nothing for Sails. I tried signing up for 3 out of 4 Wings events and got one via their 'system event lottery'. One is better than none, but this is the only time I play Wings now, unless I try the solo stuff at home.

It is a great shame Jim.
At our shows we just take a load of extra kit and if anyone else turns up add a few more planes or ships to the mix.
That also means that if anyone turns up late they can still get a game. No one ever willingly turned away!
Rob.

Rob, that's the same as me.

I usually don't have a player for every ship in large battles either. I've done San Domingo and Battle of the Nile. At San Domingo I had intended for players to only play the British but there were enough for playing both sides. At Battle of the Nile one player had control of two ships.

For the last few years there have been one to three other events happening alongside The Origins Game Fair in Columbus. You have to reserve a hotel room pretty far in advance to get one. The folks who run the convention have large blocks at the closer hotels for the people running events... maybe you might consider coming to run a few events for us next year... this would likely get you a room and a free convention badge as well. Plus, we are a fun bunch to hang with!

Thanks for the reply and suggestion, Ken. Something I might consider. I have friends in Dayton I've not visited for years so 'killing two birds' might be an option next year. :hatsoff:

:hatsoff: Good to see you docked here on the Anchorage after your 18 month voyage Ken.
It is always good to catch up with old shipmates. I hope you can find the time to pop in again soon.
Meanwhile let me take this opportunity to wish you all the best for the upcoming Origins.
May your sails never shiver, and your ship never be taken aback.
Rob.
