New to SoG and Napoleonics

Hello all! I found this game on a store shelf a year ago, and put off taking the plunge until last Christmas. My kids and I play Wings of Glory, and I've been looking for a naval game with some good history that's easy for them to play, so here I am! Bought the starter pack, 4 first rates (2 British and 2 French), a British and a French third-rate, and the Constitution. I'm sure I'll have quite a few questions, so thank you in advance for your patience!
