View Full Version : California Yo ho from the West Coast
I will not really be able to play until the reprint of the starter this June but since I have picked up a few ships and some accessories, as well as delving into the rulebook I was encouraged to sign up for this site now.
I am an avid Wings of Glory WWII player, with a focus on the Pacific and really into the board game hobby, with a Euro preference. Sails looks interesting on a ton of levels.
So, what are the waters like here?
Welcome to the Anchorage!
I'm myself in Sweden but intrude on these American waters from time to time.
I hope you will find Sails as much fun.

Welcome to you Scott, from Bristol UK. Any questions just asl
So, what are the waters like here?
Welcome to the Anchorage from the Admiralty Scott. You will find all your shipmates a fine bunch of seamen.
As far as your question about the waters, I can only answer for the Environs of the offices of the Navy Board. In there they are deep and muddy.
Rob.
Thank you for the welcome gentlemen.
It seems like the Sails starter is completely unavailable everywhere. I heard there was going to be a new printing available in June, as I mentioned above. Is this true?
Has anyone popped up on Anchorage from California?
June is down as the nominal release date so going by reprints being quicker off the block than new series, I would expect to see them about the end of July at outlets.
Rob.
On the books Scott we have the following members from California.
However, As you can see only three have posted this year, and 23 have never posted.
I have highlighted the members who have been active during last year or this.
Hope this helps.
Rob.

Thank you Rob!
It looks like Corsair signed on recently. Even though he has only 5 logs he is the most active. Locally people are playing though, someone had to buy it out. I cannot find a copy of the starter in any game store or on-line. The bigger fish to fry is trying to track down a starter at a reasonable price and not wait until July...

Welcome!
Caught one! Walked into a random game store and they had the starter, a bit knocked around but still in shrink.

The days events have long term consequences:
-I feel that I can start posting in the general forums now because I have the game.
-It is clearly a good idea to go into every random game store... always.
Good find Scott.
You are right about checking out game stores etc. Some of my best finds have been in back street shops at the seaside. Amongst the buckets, spades, and flotation devices you may get a very old set of that sort, reduced to clear after sitting on the shelf gathering dust for literally years.
I got two very pleasant surprises that way.
Rob.

Where in California are you, Scott?
I'm in Sonoma County.
Alameda, so close-ish. Do you play at a local store?

No. I don't play SGN anymore and I sold my Ares ships. I like to play 1:1000 scale age of sail minis but I prefer the Post Captain ruleset, from Old Dominion GameWorks.
But if you attend Pacificon this September, I will be there on Saturday all day in the Wargame Boot Camp area. I'll be demoing my solitaire operational age-of-sail game, "A Glorious Chance: The Naval Struggle for Lake Ontario in the War of 1812," which has made the cut for publication at Legion Wargames.

Description: Wargame Bootcamp - Designer's demo and drop-in play of this solitaire, operational naval boardgame in the War of 1812. Play hotseat, coop, or watch.
I plan to take my set of 1:1000 scale 3D printed minis with me (I have every ship that was in the campaign) and set them up too, to show how players can use the boardgame to run a campaign and generate scenarios for miniatures battles.
