Hi everybody,

Several months ago I have announced that I shall work on a web based solo play app for Sails of Glory. I am glad to announce it is finally complete! I understand that since then another app has popped up so you guys have the luxury of picking between the two!

The workings are quite simple, you describe the situation to the software and it then generates a 2 dimensional (internal) grid. It then proceeds to plot each manoeuvre it can do and is in fact smart enough to pick which is the best one. It might go for a less ideal solution to prevent it from being predictable. So this is not a digitalised version of existing solitair systems but it is an aim to create a virtual opponent with it's own reasoning capabilities! Make sure you read the instructions before using it.

Give it a try at www.digital-game-aides.com (http://www.digital-game-aides.com). It works best on mobile devices.

This will also be the official thread for discussions regarding this software. You can also contact me via the feedback form on the main page.

Cheers,

Daan

*28-07-2016 updated crew actions. Now you can tell the software to remember what happened in a previous turn and there won't be double repair actions.

Very nice! I gave it a look, and found it very easy to use and understand. Good job!

Thanks G-Two, I felt the same about yours. Nice to see it in google play. I heard of ways to transfer HTML files into APK's but not sure how that would exactly work, maybe I will look into that one day too!
And about it being easy to use is actually one of my goals since I find the pace very slow if you have to worry about every ship on the table.

PS. If you want to use images in your software as well feel free to use mine. Would save you a few hours of work :)

It gave it a brief test run. It works well.

I'll post a battle report up with it in action later.

Looking forward to seeing that! Obviously I played with it myself but am interested to see others' results.

Im using the software now, The heading part is pretty confusing. Im not sure which one is left and which is right. I have one ship going NE and one going W. Is this 135-180 left?

I believe that if the ship heading NE is the solo ship, and the ship heading W is the target, then you are correct, it would be 135-180 left
If the solo ship is headed W, and the target is headed NE, the relative heading would be 135-180 right.
I think. ;)

I look at it this way: If the solo ship were a compass, with the prow of the ship being north, what direction would the prow of the target ship be facing in relation to it?
For example, if the solo ship is facing E, and the target is facing S, the targets relative heading would be 90 degrees to the right of the direction the solo ship is heading.

A thought on how to simplify the relative heading.

Why not have the bearing taken from the direction your heading, clockwise from 0-360 rather than include left and right?

Hmm, thanks Hugh, I tried to get this working on my ipad but it just sits and stares at me.
I can put in the data but the manouvre page is blank.
I need to looka bit more I think

Best way to see it is for the solo ship to be the "compass rose". Everyone has their own way of visualising spatial oriented things but this works easiest for me. Keep in mind that the more precise you set the software the more accurate the manoeuvre will be. If you want to just "wing it" and have a quick guess at which rel. HDG you set then this is also fine. Not every human player puts a lot of thought in it.
F.Y.I. This rel. HDG setting helps the software extrapolate the target's position. So if you select 90-135 or 135-180 you will likely get similar results.
