When I repaired Surprise after the disaster that befell her a while ago, I added ratlines too.

Thank you all.

I know the problem, Sven. I find mine too often jams.

Splendid work indeed!
Especially the red stripe along her bulwark is a nice detail!

Did you do a series of pictures of building the Surprise Jonas.
I thought you had somewhere or other?

Whoa! I'd love to have the Surprise in my collection -- how, where, did you acquire her?

Rob, I don't think I took any photos during the process.

What I did was to take the French frigate from the starter kit and cut off two gun ports of length in the middle.

Here are the earliest pictures I have found on the Anchorage:
https://sailsofglory.org/showthread.php?3339-Surprise

The cut is just behind the gun port where the quarterdeck starts.

I also added a stern gallery from Langton instead of the original.

Last big modification was to add a gun port aft. I drilled a shallow quite big hole and cut it square using an X-acto knife. When it was good enough I added a short piece of plastic sprue stretched over a candle to the gun port and painted it all black.

Then paint the red stripe and add rig... :fixit: :help:

And, yes... I had to cut the boats off a little to make them fit in the new shorter waist of the ship.

Just what I was looking for Jonas.
I knew you had a picture of the cut somewhere.
Now I have a nice print out of it.

I don't know how on earth you did your rigging, but it is amazing.

I'm guessing you're referring to the ratlines?

Those are from the Anchorage store. There might be some left for the frigates.
I'm sad to say that my hopes for more of those for the larger ships or any ship other than the ones in the starter is all but extinguished.

The standing rigging is just a synthetic sewing thread through holes drilled using a 0.5 mm drill and secured using super glue.

are you printing out your own ship base cards for these ships? I repainted one of my extra Melanger's as the HMS Surprise, but don't have the ship card or base card for it. Is there a program that you are using to do this with?

I use Photoshop.

I base my cards off a scanned copy of the original cards and write my own names and values.

And thank you for the reputation, good sir.
