The good captain prepares for two Firsts.
His first battle with the new starter set he just purchased, and his first game trying the AI rules of Herkybird.

20805
Dutch Courage.
He will need it because Bligh is running the AI.

20806

The two squadrons square up for battle.

20803

20804

The British and Kiwi hold the wind gauge as the Squadrons close.
20807

Damn, double shot a cable length too short.
20808

Kiwi's Frigate Captain takes it on.
20809

And makes a pretty good fist of it, but gets a hammering from the Spanish 74.

20810

As he turns away he has another go with his stern chaser.
Firing from the tops exchanges a few casualties.

20811

Double shotted again Kiwi now gets in on the action.

20812

Again some firing from the tops.
20813

Position is everything.
Only fire from the tops available this time.
20815

Note the remains of the battered British Frigate doing a runner in the background.
20814

He makes it off the table.

20816

Left alone, things look black for Cpt Kiwi.
Until a sudden mistake by the Captains of the Spanish 74s who run aboard each other with dire consequences.

20817

Suddenly reduced dramatically in points, they can only run as the good Captain bears down upon them, and will soon be positioned for a stern rake.
It was so dramatic, that we actually forgot to photo the huge damage done by the collision.

The Butcher's bill will tell it all.
Bligh.

My apologies for any blurred photos in the AAR but although I did not know it at the time I already had a scratches retina.

Great battle. A pretty good final result, despite the advantage of Spaniards. Whit this imbalance should be at least one sinking

Nice AAR Rob. Don't know why you are apologising for the photo quality, they are better than my 'good' ones.

...and about how long time did you play?

Take out the banter, the drinking, and the after battle post mortem, the actual battle took about an hour and 20 minutes Morten.

I must point out Kamil that HMS Terpsichore was all but sunk, and Defence was lucky to draw no fewer than 19 naughts which was twice that of both the Spanish ships put together, otherwise it may have been a very different story.

I find when playing against the AI, it is often the case that one side gets all the luck with damage chits! Weird! So much for the laws of chance!:erk:

A grand battle. As to the chit draws, is it better to be lucky or good?

Napoleon said when asked that question, "Give me a lucky General." I expect much the same can be said for a Captain Hugh.

:hmmm: Typical
I nip off for a cat nap in my cot, and my second oldest Wargaming chum slips into the Anchorage without even disturbing the Officer of the watch.:hatsoff:

There will be plenty of libations for all Officers, in my Day cabin this evening.:drinks:
I will also have Tanky splice the Mainbrace for all the Ratings.
Welcome alongside Andy my old shipmate.
