Summary:
For those of you who want something off the beaten track to inspire your games this book has it in spades. Set in the Indian Ocean it chronicles the Naval action taken against the French based on the Isle de France during 1808/09. However, it does far more than this as the first half of the book is taken up with the internecine disputes between the Indian Army, Navy, British Governor, and the HEIC. All have a particular agenda, and when two serious Hurricanes are thrown into the mix, it is a wonder that the capture of the Isle de France ever succeed. A very good biography of all the dramatis personae is included, so that if any of you wish to add a little colour to your AARs you have all you could wish for.
My one main criticism of the book is the lack of Naval action in the first half, if you discount the hurricanes.
Ever wondered what happened to the explorer and cartographer Matthew Flinders? Look no further, the answer lies here.

I agree with your description of this book. It is a good read with little naval action in the beginning as the author builds the story. Thank you for the review Rob.
