Une rencontre fortuite.

19621

Capitane André Duepay reflects on the fortunes of war in the Captain's cabin of HMS Bellerophon.

19623

Earlier that day he had encountered her as he headed for the Isle De France in his 74 Le Swiftsure.

19624

Both ships closed on opposite courses and exchanged broadsides.

19625

19626

Both ships inflicted serious damage to the other.

19627

Fire from the tops was indecisive.

19628

Both ships attempted to maneuver the other into an inferior position.

19629

Swiftsure gets into an untenable position and takes a Broadside from Bellerophon.

19630

However Bellerophon is now taken aback.

19631

Despite this setback Bellerophon is eventually able to get in a front rake upon Dupay's ship.

19632

Le Swiftsure is hurt badly.

19633

In trying to close for a boarding action, again the bold Dupay is mauled by Belleraphon and loses more seamen.

19634

Even though Dupay gets a stern rake upon the Belleraphon, his return fire is much weakened by losses.

19635

Belleraphon now closes for the Coup de Grace.

19636

Hardly able to reply, and with his ship reduced to a hulk, the brave Dupay is forced to haul down his colours.

The Butcher's Bill.

19637

I must add that to say that although this was Cpt Kiwi's first game in Sails, he acquitted himself admirably, and on repairing to my cabin for after battle beverages his sword was returned to him.
Well fought Andy.

Very nice straightforward action!
And your custom Bellerophon cuts a fine figure, I especially like the strong yellow of the sides.

Thanks for your comment Richard.
The yellow was only actually an ink wash over the original buff colour.

A gallant little action. I'm still wandering whether to sell the Langtons or keep them as I have more choice of ships........
