The real tragedy: Mexico had two steam-powered, shell-firing-cannon-armed frigates (_Montezuma_, and _Guadeloupe_), the latter of which was iron-hulled; with those ships, Mexico could have done serious harm to the USN during the Mex-Am War.
Sorry...not US Navy.......

Those Frenchies were particularly "actif" in the 1970s :)
