Wouldn't it be awesome to introduce America's first submarine to the game? Does anyone have any ideas on how to do it?
For starters, it would have to be deployed within range AB of a shore. The wind gauge would not affect it, but it would probably have to be slow moving, and that would probably merit some sort of deck or template.

Thoughts?

Hmm, well leaving aside the question as to whether it actually existed (there is no actual physical evidence of it ever having been built or operated, hopefully someday someone will find it at the bottom of a creek or something) here's some thoughts.

Movement - one ruler width in any direction. If contacted by the front edge of a ship draw an "A" chit - sunk in collision if a "0" is drawn

Attack - may attack ships at anchor only. Draw an A chit each turn the sub is in contact. Attack resolved when total of scores on chits exceeds 20

Attack resolution - ship fitted with copper bottom - no effect, otherwise draw two B chits and apply damage as normal. Flooding critical if score of those chits equals or exceeds 11

Turtle would probably best be physically represented as a token, a small chit with no base and no fire-arc.

Howe was lucky that American tactics tend to be very guarded about the lives of our fighting men relative to other forces'; many others through history (*stares pointedly at Special Operations Executive, may they burn in Hell*) would've ordered a One Way Trip without a second thought, and if Lee'd been in a Fiery Blaze of Glory Go Out With a BANG mood Eagle woulda probably been pretty seriously damaged.
