Many of Patrick O'Brian's novels are available on CD as audiobooks.
Thank you for the tip on the audio books David. :hatsoff:

Wonderful! Thanks. Although unabridged audiobooks are my personal preference I love all BBC Radio dramas I've gotten to date. Their work on dramatizing the Lord of the Rings is a great one, for example.
I've downloaded both linked from that site and look forward to enjoying them. Pointers to any similar are always appreciated.

Yes, one of my favorite things is to listen to a radio play on a lazy sunny sunday.
I especially love the old "Shadow" radio dramas

One of the few aspects of living in L.A. I miss: KNX Radio's Drama Hour....

Not to say I'm old but, I grew up listening to that radio program.
Thanks for the radio link.
I found some more downloadable radio plays. This is over 40 plays of "The Adventures of Captain Horatio Hornblower". Here's the link:

Wow...1950s broadcasts. I'll download them and give a listen soon as I finish my current one. I enjoy listening to the original War of the Worlds broadcast (became a personal Halloween tradition when they used to air it each year one one station back home). That was before these even.
Thanks for the find! :rum:
Thanks again Bob. I fell asleep listening to them last night.

One of the things I am sad about is that I wasn't around to experience some of these things when they were in their prime. I would much rather listen to a story and do something (a hobby or game, maybe) than have a tv show occupy my whole attention (which is one of the reasons I don't watch much TV).

There is no movie or TV show that can portray the scenes that your mind can. That's why radio stories and books are still around.

Very well put. That is why I love reading as well. Even during my commute, I prefer an audio book (thank you library system).
