I've been looking into this game since it was announced, as I've long been a fan of the glory days of sailing, but the higher cost of the game had kept me from blindly buying the starter. Over the weekend, I was introduced to the game at Ancient City Con in Jacksonville, FL, and was instantly hooked. Now I am simply awaiting the cash flow to buy in, and am looking forward to it!
Welcome aboard, Jeremy. :hatsoff:
The Starter Set might be a bit pricey, but the return on investment is great. We have had players of all ages at the table at the same time, and all were having a great time.
We have a solo set of rules and accompanying campaign which increases the game's value, IMHO: http://sailsofglory.org/forumdisplay.php?41-2015-Solo-Campaign

Greetings Jeremy. Welcome to the Anchorage! :salute: The least expensive spot to pick up the starter I've seen is Cool Stuff, Inc., followed closely by Miniature Market. $59.99 to $62.93. Both offer free shipping if you spend over a certain amount.
Like Eric and Jim said, the starter set is the best way to go. And welcome from Arizona, Jeremy:beer:

Bonjour, Jeremy.
Welcome on board.
Welcome to the Anchorage! :salute:
I find that the starter set is a very good start and instead of wishing you hadn't when (if) you expand your collection, you probably will want to buy another.
