Beautiful arranged diorama, Rob.
I hope the wind blows to the right direction, so that the blocking RN ships can't intervene that easy.
Vive la France!
(the 3rd rate's white flag of the Bourbons is a little bit disturbing)

Nice photographs. The blue Dunelm Mill table runner works well with the scenery.

Well spotted Dave.
It is not even bad with the Wings coastal mats.

Thanks Sven. Yes indeed the wind drove the covering Frigates off shore.
As they say, "Tis an ill wind that blows no one any good."

I really like your background and ships
The background is some sheets of generic cloud covered card from Staples Darell. I then cut out some old railway scenics and pasted it onto the card.
The headlands and forts are of course Aries own for the game. Eventually I will get around to 3d forts and islands, but have a lot of aircraft to finish off first.

Bligh,
That's a great idea nicely executed.
Would you mind if I borrowed a couple of images for wallpaper?
:hatsoff: Not at all dear fellow. I would be honoured. Be my guest.
Bligh.
Great looking! I really like the look of several ships in one picture.
That background made it great looking.
 COOL, nice fleet.
Really nice Rob. I hope your background inspires other wargamers to enhance their games:drinks:

"Hi-ho, Hi-ho, it's out to sea we go!!"
Not sure what the translation would be in French, but hopefully something at least as melodic!!
I really like the blue surface material. I need to find that. Is it pretty durable? It looks like it would be.

It is a Navy Leatherette Table Protector from a store chain called Dunelm Mill here in the U.K.. http://www.dunelm-mill.com/shop/navy-leatherette-table-protector-326169
Thanks Dave.
Saved me having to look the address up.

Funny you should say that Ed. Right from the time we started the School Wargames Club in the early 70's our dictum was to try and raise the standards of the background and surface layout in some way with each new show we attended.
Our club was actually credited with introducing the idea of AstroTurf terrain and embedding plastic rivers. Most clubs used flocked polystyrene and varnish for rivers at that time. things have moved along a lot since then. I well remember vac forming a set of bridges to do Vitoria.

Thank you, David. I will look for something similar here in the U.S.

Oh that table protector brings back flashbacks to my many years of Naval service. We refer to it as "nauga", for Naugahyde. I have taken many nauga naps, getting in 15 minutes of sleep between casualty drill scenarios. But I digress. Great setup.
Why tank you kind sir, and thanks for the anecdote about your Nauga naps. As we say over here, you obviously could sleep on a clothesline Jerome.
