France (Player):
Capitaine de frégate Geraud Duroc (AC) with his 74-guns Ship of Line Aquilon
Britain (AI):
Captain Vernon Fleming with his 74-guns Ship of Line HMS Defence
Game settings:
Standard rules plus Variable Wind Direction and the optional rules from the scenario (different ammo, sail special damage)
French Order: Capture or destroy the enemy ship
Turn 1
French Capitaine on the Aquilon sights enemy ship starboard rear out of the fog. (see picture above)
The Aquilon is in good position for intercepting the enemy.
Turn 2-3
The Aquilon turns starboard to engage while the British HMS Defence comes closer.
The French ship is in long firing range but delays to come in closer broadside position.
12654
Turn 4
The battle begins with a close crossing.
Heavy broadside from both ships plus little musketry fire.
12655
Turn 5-6
Both ships are turning around and after reloading they fire long, but well aimed broadsides again.
12656
Turn 7-8
Another long broadside against each other!
Only little damage on the Aquilon but significant damage and crew loss for the HMS Defence.
Half of the crew are deadly wounded there.
But the British captain Vernon Fleming didn’t get hurt. (modified dice roll result: 10)
12657
Turn 9-11
The British ship surprises the French Capitaine by breaking port side.
So the French ship has to change her sailing course immediately.
Now the Aquilon comes into the firing angle of the British guns.
But luckily only small damage for the French ship.
12658
Turn 12 part 1
And now the Aquilon gets wind of a good opportunity.
She turns starboard and fires a deadly close broadside to the reloading enemy.
(notice the two damage-sails counters for the HMS Defence!)
Followed up by precise musketry fire.
The British losses are heavy and also the British captain gets serious hurt. (modified dice roll result: 2+2)
Only two crew-boxes left on the British Ship of Line!
12659
Turn 12 part 2
So Capitaine Geraud Duroc smells his advantage and gives order to enter the British ship.
Luckily he didn’t get hurt by that attack (modified dice roll result: 5).
And the brave French sailors successfully captured finally the British ship.
12660
What a glory day for the French Navy!
The enemy agent was arrested and the HMS Defence seized as prize.
One extra ration grog to all sailsmen! :drinks:
