View Full Version : Starter Set ships with painted sails
Here's the version of my ships that I'm now officially happy with: French with gray sails, British with brown, black yards on both. Looks very nice and it's easy to tell them apart on the table.

These look great, Ralf. Your table will be a site.
What is nice, too, is the ability to distinguish between the two fleets.
Well done, Sir. :hatsoff:

Those do look nice, what paints and colors did you use?
Thanks everybody, glad you like them! Yes, they are the ones I used in the Sitting Ducks scenario - I've just started on the HMS Bellerophon as the next ship.
I'm using Vallejo Game Colors - they are the ones I have available from my miniatures painting. Specifically I'm using Brown and Black Ink, Bonewhite, Dead White, Stonewall Grey and Black.

I use Vallejo as well, but I don't have any of their Game Colors. Where did you apply the inks and any tips for using them?
I thin the inks down quite a bit (I'd say about 50:50 with water), then apply them liberally over all the sails. They settle nicely into the recesses, bringing out the details and stain the whole sails darker. I then drybrush with Bonewhite/DeadWhite and Stonewall Grey/White to make the lighter again and bring out the details even more.
Nice work, as previously said they look great.
French with gray sails, British with brown so what about the Spanish and US ships, any thoughts for them?
Pink for U.S.? Lemon green for Spain? :takecover:
EDIT: Jokes aside, that's gonna be difficult and I haven't thought about it yet.
