Since the original mat stocks are empty and the thing seems to becoming OOP, having no option to get it before the weekend (yes I am THAT anxious to try the Game), having some experience in making custom mats for WoG system, I just ordered online a 2m/1m sheet of thick felt and the express post has just delivered it to my door.
For 45 PLN (app. 15 USD) there was no option then getting the thing ASAP.

Besides the price issue, I feel I'm gonna have fun just painting it

Surprisingly it lies almost absolutely flat on my gaming table after unrolling and the quality of material is very good.

Let's see what we can do with this beautiful, but rather too bright colour of blue...

You know, Chief, I find there are some strange forms of family and professional life outside WoG/SoG world. Something must be done with that!:swordleft:

Give them each a $20 and tell them to go to the store

I had a "painting night" yesterday and the mat is ready. A dark blue and middle green paints were applied on the bright blue.
The texture turned out quite well IMHO and I am happy to have an amateur playing surface
It was cut to fit my gaming table 180cm/100cm.
Right after placing the ships the youngest seaman ;) appeared to judge daddy's work

That looks great. How thick is the mat? It does look very plush. Do you have a link? Might be interesting to order one from Germany.

It does look good Andrzej. Did you just spray direct onto the mat or did you put paint onto a pad and dab it on? What is the thickness of the felt?

Looks good. The nice thing is that you can customize it to fit your table. Are you going to add grid lines to help check attitude.?

:)
1. I just sprayed paints from the can.
2. The felt is 4 mm thick, one-side impregnated.

600 g/m2
width: 100 cm +/- 2 cm
poliester 100 %

Not sure yet and I do not have a clear image of the original grid lines. Is it necessary or can one play without the lines?

You can play with out lines, but it's much easier once you start doing game with the wind coming from different directions or changing during a game.

Personally, I think it looks too good to put lines on it. Great job:beer:

And a nice color match for the ship bases.

Looking at some gorgeous 3D mats some of the able forumers made, yesterday I decided to get some nice sculpts on my own.
Obtaining some hard styrene (styrodur) in a hobby shop was easy, along with sheets of sand paper and spray paints (ivory, light and medium green). Citadel green grass and a dose of outdoor sand for a nice touch in the end were added, but not necessary.

The mainland has already been chipped, while the island in the middle has just been cut out of the main thing.

After an hour the land and the island were ready. They turned out really well, IMHO

Those do look great! When I first saw your photo of a ship sailing through a narrow passage with high cliffs, it made me think of a scene from the 60's Jason and the Argonauts movie. Some folks around here might remember it.

All Andrzej needs now is a 25/28mm figure of Poseidon to complete his diorama.

Andrzej, this looks great.

Here are a couple of pix I had found a while ago, plus the SoG mat pattern should give you some good ideas.

I tried to leave the labels on the pix for recognition of the Authors.

The French - always too late with their fleet and choosing the second best route...*

I check this forum almost daily but missed this great self made gaming surface thread.

A great work, Andrzej. Mat and terrain pieces look fantastic. If you hit those cliffs, the game is definitely over.

Seems my first games lies a few days in the future, too.

Rep point carronade is loaded - prepare for a salvo over the main deck. :cannonboom:

Excellent terrain Andrezj and nice photo of wizkids ships Erin (bit busy to navigate through I would have thought without kedging or getting the boats out and rowing, certainly not appropriate to leave it up the vagaries of the wind!!)
