View Full Version : Inexpensive alternatives to Damage Counter Bags

I realize many of us who Kickstarted SoG received 3 (or 5 for Captains) damage counter bags as rewards. For those of you who are coming aboard from the retail market or don't want to drop that much coin on the retail SoG Damage Counter Bags, check eBay for lots of Crown Royal cloth bags. I scored 25 bags for $20 shipped (link (http://www.ebay.com/itm/25-Crown-Royal-bags-Free-Shipping-/201007639557?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2eccfd2c05)).

Granted, some of the lots cost as much as just buying the retail SoG Damage Counter Bags but if you split the order with a friend it can cost less than $1 a bag.

Ahh, the gamer's good old bag of choice! Are you marking the outside of them so that you can tell which damage chits are in each?

I'll probably create a hang tag of sorts on card stock. Something along the lines of these (http://www.etsy.com/market/hang_tag), possibly using this font (http://www.1001fonts.com/alte-caps-font.html).

Those are tempting to get just to have on hand. Thanks for the links.

For members in the United Kingdom there is a company called 'The Clever Baggers', which sells drawstring cloth bags quite cheaply. They are not as fancy as the 'Crown Royal' ones but they are available in different sizes and colours and you can write on them in felt pen, if you wish. Here is a web link:

Alternatively you could get a dice cup like this one for $2.29 each. (from NWS online store)

Easier to pull chits from and to mark, but the downside is storage. Here are some cheap dice bags as well:

Very cool idea! I've always liked the look of those bags. Thanks for sharing!

"You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, but Crown Royal bags are cooler for keeping dice in anyway." [_Everything I Need To Know I Learned From Gaming_]

That said: I have a large stock of Amtrak Toiletry-Kit Bags (they hand them out on _Coast Starlight_; has soap, shampoo, conditioner, shower cap), which are about the same size as the counter bags.

I personally got the bags from the KSer, but the Crown Royal bags look better. Plus you'd get to drink the contents. Great idea!

Some of us can't.

I'll drink it for you and send the empty bags. (I kid, I kid!)

4 pounds for a set of bags, 12 for shipping. :bleh:

I was not suggesting that you buy bags and ship them across the Atlantic, Todd. That is certain to be expensive. That was why I started with "For members in the United Kingdom".

You can also use the cloth bags your wife jewelry came in. And the shot size crown royal bags are the right size for a pull bag. And they small enough to fix back into the game box.

I got these from Amazon for $8 w/ free Prime shipping (they're selling fast; there were 18 of them the other day, only 4 left at the time of this post):

There are 2 each of 6 different colors, 5 of 6 of the colors match the A-E damage counter bags. However, the red is a little bit on the pink side (not too bad though).

They're just large enough to put your hand in, and can lay fairly flat in the box on top of the rules/ship mats, or 2 of them can roll up and fit inside the larger bin.

Leaves me with 7 spare bags for other games.

here are some smaller ones. http://www.amazon.com/drawstring-Organza-Jewelry-Pouch-Bags/dp/B003C7ICVC/ref=pd_sim_hg_2. about 3 by 4. I am trying to keep my bags small enough so I throw the counters in. And toss the bag into the original box.

My friend's wife has good sewing machine, and she likes to sew. So, I believe she'll find her bussy

Here are the jewelry bags from Amazon. From my post on 27th. I order them on 27th and got them on 31st. Shipping may have been delayed due to snow/ice storm Alabama had this week. One bag is full of damage counters. The other is there to see the size . All 5 full bags fit bag in the game box with only a small bump. But I think that was there already due the extras I got.

I got some bags and my mum added cross stitch letters. The bags were around 60p each.

Bought official ones at Origins but bought similar coloured bags to Steve for WGS Chits.

I got some small plastic lidded storage containers which are different colours, and suitably semi opaque so you cannot see the counters clearly through them.
They are light, protective, and nearly indestructible! :fixit:
