When did they change the HMS Impetueux from a 74 to a 64 gun SOL?

As shown on the SGN ship card.

And if she was the 64 gun HMS America renamed the HMS Impetueux, her class should be Intrepid.

I'm confused and need help.(no wisecracks please)

Ed, ISTR that HMS Impetueux was one of the weaker Temeraire armament variants. Let me call up my spreadsheet and check a few things, and I'll pitch in some comparative stats... some of these ships were surprisingly weakly armed, and others were real monsters.

First, this particular ship started her life as the French America, renamed because of the combination of there already being an HMS America in the RN and the captured French Impetueux that had been planned for recommissioning into the RN accidentally being burned.

I checked both ThreeDecks and Lyon & Winfield's Sail & Steam Navy List, and here's what I fed into my broadside calculator.
Heaviest armed was HMS Belleisle in 1800, with 30 each 32# and 24# and four 9# guns, and 14x32# and 6x18# carronades, for a Halitosis Range broadside of 1178#, or 12 chits if my math is right.
Weakest known is HMS Hercule in 1802 with all 24-pounders from top to bottom--total of sixty between regular and Gover's guns, plus 14 carronades. HRB is 888#, or again if my math is right 9 chits.

According to my calculator, in 1796 Impetueux was throwing 1128# HRB's, one of the heaviest Temeraire fits I've seen: 30x32# and 34x18# guns, 18x32# and 6x18# carronades for 11 chits point-blank.

Could be just a typo... otherwise, I need some help with finding additional variant fit-outs. Unless it was done deliberately to represent a lower-end Temmy and differentiate her from packmate HMS Spartiate, which was in the high midrange at 1074# broadside.

For the record: I have no less than twenty-five different armament packages for this class between French, Spanish and British specimens. Along with eight for HMS Victory alone, and four for Slade Common 74's.

Thanks for looking into it Diamondback. It's just that I got excited when I saw the 64 gun rating. It isn't the Agamemnon, but thought I could use it as such.

One would hope that "Nelson's Favorite" would be a high priority on the list of 64 gun SoL sculpts!

Diamondback,

what exactly abbreviation HRB means?
(I understand it's for broadside weight)

I believe he is referring to "halitosis range broadside", meaning a broadside at very close range. I've never heard "halitosis range" used with ships and broadsides before. It's generally used in regard to close quarter shooting with small arms, that is you are engaging a threat so close you can smell his breath, hence the halitosis (bad breath) reference.

Btw, what's proper pronuciation of "Impetueux" in English (or should I use French one)?

Since it is spelled in French, when I pronounce it I just drop the x.

Oh crap... if it's rated a 64, that means Andrea confused the 1794 HMS America, former French America, with the Intrepid-class 1777 HMS America.

Impetueux should have similar stats to HMS Spartiate, and Ares may have to issue a Correction Log...

Surely the 64 is just a typo? --the stats are all the same

Maybe I should have kept my mouth shut. At least I would have an up gunned 64.

You've seen how anal this crowd can be.

And don't call me Surely.

Partially because of how anal-retentive and mentally-constipated the Munchkin Gamer crowd is.

Let's hope that SGN doesn't readily lend itself to Munchkinry like AAM/WAS did...

If you pronounce the tueux as tue as I Tuesday, people will know what you mean.(I hope)
But the French might laugh.

In which case, let's hope the Big Guy here lets me reclaim my old Forumini title of "Munchkin Wrangler" since I was so good at clubbing them with stats and data over there.

Interesting! Having read about the Battle of the Denmark Strait for decades before first hearing "Prinz Eugen" pronounced, I know it's awfully hard to correct a bad habit. Better to learn it right (or at least better approximate it) from the get-go...
