Someone in Illinois has photos of the Captain's Pledge that he received. Several backers have now reported receiving the game, and many of them are complaining that their package did not include the mat. The headache portion of the campaign has officially begun!

On the FB posts they have been advising everyone that the mats are coming in a separate box but should arrive right around the same time as the main pledge. I'm sure it's because the mats just won't pack well with the rest of the items.

I look forward to mine arriving!

I received the leutenant pack last night. If I'm not mistaken, the leutenant and Captain packs were pre-packaged, so I would assume that extras wouldn't be able to be added to these boxes and would come seperately.

I can tell you for experience that shipping the mats along with other items is a real pain. I would have thought the other extras would have been in the same shipments though.

It is amazing how all the... get their orders first in the scheme of things. I wonder if the remainder of the world exist as far as the warehouse know!
Totally discontented from the UK with the whole kickstarter project at the moment as the seems to be a total unbalance in the customer care attitude of the team. I know i will now be put at the bottom of any list any have a number of items 'disappear' due to this comment!

Is it Ares attitude to say"Screw the Victory and Constitution", let's do wave 2 first, you have not invested in that! Let's keep you strung out for a year as we do not give a fig! Just take the wave 2 and shut up!

Lead Mountain, that's not our attitude. We have explained our reasons for the delay. We offer a full refund to anybody who's not interested in waiting, or in wave 2, if you have any better idea of what we can do to handle the delay, let us know.

Is it better if we postpone Wave 2 by 8 months? Is it better if we do not offer refunds or credit, and just let people wait, as a lot of other Kickstarters did? Any suggestion to handle the problem better than we're doing is more than welcome.

And about UK being worse off than Illinois- it's true, and I don't like it. But there's not much we can do. We are shipping at the same time to EU and US backers, but delivery times cannot ever be the same, and we're not big enough to have one warehouse in every country, unfortunately. Or to ship all parcels in one day.

I personally backed (from Italy) RoboTurtles recently, and while Americans started to get the game one month ago, I still have to see any of it.
Can I expect thousands of parcels to be sent in one day? No. Can I expect that somebody who's a couple of hours away from the warehouse receives the game at the same time as someone at 10,000 km away? No. There's not much we can do about these things.

Hi Roberto,

I hope you don't get mad every time you see a negative comment. The Anchorage is among other things a venting site.
I am more than sure 99+% of the people here are just thankful that you're having SGN produced.
I do my share of complaining but, am grateful for your efforts.

Let's face it, simultaneous worldwide delivery would require a Star Trek transporter beam, and even then there's still a bottleneck of how much throughput can be processed within a given interval of time.

And, since Ares is only a five-man band operating literally across an ocean from their primary warehouse facility... let's keep some realistic expectations, folks. I mean, I have a Commodore package with a shipload of addons, and frankly expect mine to be one of the last dozen out the door, and you don't see me getting worked up about my $750... but maybe that's just a certain perspective born of experience that "in the long run, other than life and death it's all small stuff".

I would say that this close to the holidays reverse order by distance makes much more sense.
I would not have gotten my the package by new year even if it left the door on the same day it was received at the warehouse.
So let some US backer get "my" package and enjoy it in his vacation rather than both of us waiting ...

I suggest we open a "who will get their package last contest" - I guess our antipodean friends will win that one

Everyone's tired of waiting and the escalating snarkyness I'm seeing on the Kickstarter SoG comments sections is particularly upsetting, There are more claims of people getting ships directly from retailers and Ares folks are trying to calm and reassure people. I did some further checking of retailers and many don't expect stock to be in hand until the end of February.

It was interesting to see that Ares has received no shipping updates from the warehouse for anything going out after 12-26. They project 2/3's of the International shipments will be out for delivery by Monday with 60% of everything already processed. With no UPS delivery on Tuesday and Wednesday next week it's going to be interesting to see how the rest of us 40% end up in the queue.

Glad to hear that! Hopefully more of you EU guys will start getting yours soon. Unfortunately, the holiday break is coming to a close. It would have been nice to have had the game in hand over the break. With work picking back up, whenever the game arrives, it will probably reach the table slowly. As for others receiving the game first, that is not an issue at all. I think, for many of us, we celebrate the arrival of the game to our shipmates abroad.

Eric, with no disrespect to anyone else who backed Sails of Glory, I think your demonstrated kindness and generosity towards others is exceptional. We should all be so supportive that members of the community are finally receiving the game!

In contrast, the comments by too many backers at the Kickstarter comments section is one of "He got his, why haven't I got mine!?!" I take solace that they are still just a handful of the 1,000+ backers of SoG.

Having said that, it's disappointing not to receive the game in advance of the holidays. But I am happy for Ares that the game is finally out, and happy for us that we now have something concrete to either play or look forward to receiving.

Seriously!? I know you're going to respect the Ares street date, but how many other retailers have gotten ships that wont? Perhaps I should pre-order from you now? The way things are going with the warehouse and UPS I'm not going to see any ships for some time.

The Royal Hajj

As Ares has said on the KS pages, the warehouse had instructions not to ship to retailers yet. Beyond telling them not to, they can't do much about it if the warehouse does anyways. Plus, I get direct shipments from Ares (from the warehouse) where most if not all other retail outlets go through a distributor. It stands to reason that that along with my close partnership on this game that I would be one of the first stores to receive them... at least I like to think so :bleh:

With the street date of the 13th (originally it was the 6th and then moved to the 17th, so they are adjusting that date to insure backers have time to get their stuff first), Ares must have an idea that all backers will have their boxes by then. While you could pre-order from me, unfortunately you would not get your toys any faster.

I was the very first person to back the KS and I've got well over a grand tied up in it and I've not seen my stuff yet either. Add to that that it actually cost me more to support the KS than to do my normal retail order (with the KS, I'm actually buying back my own products from them at a higher amount and have the shipping on everything to cover as well). I should be one of the people that are upset, but I'm not as I know nothing ever goes according to plan. In fact, me not getting my KS stuff before others just goes to show how fair Ares is trying to be about all of this.

I've seen this on the pre-production ships as well. typically it's the fore mast that I'm seeing it on. I bet they are getting bent when they are removed from the mold. The plastic is still warm and the mold may not be making a clean release. This would cause bending (but not breaking) in those thin parts. Just my guess.

The only add-ons I have are game mats and the Constitution/Victory ships. The boxes I received were packed for Captain level with no room to spare.

Sue asked about bending the masts back, but I think once they're on the table, the bend might not be noticeable (you should see some of the barrels on my A&A tanks - they can shoot around corners). We have a sail that needs to be glued. Once we take the ships out of the packaging, I will have a better idea what the repair needs are, if any.

UPS says my stuff is in a local delivery truck and should turn up today. I've been watching it crawl across the country on the UPS site since the 27th, but no tracking number from Ares. So, keep your hopes up :)

[QUOTE=The Royal Hajj;23639]I've seen this on the pre-production ships as well. typically it's the fore mast that I'm seeing it on. I bet they are getting bent when they are removed from the mold. The plastic is still warm and the mold may not be making a clean release. This would cause bending (but not breaking) in those thin parts. Just my guess.

Ares is already taking care of damaged components. I posted pictures of the bent mast tip and the forum members here felt the mast was broken as opposed to bent. All my ships, game and ship packs have some bend but they are slight and that I can attribute to production. In fact, all miniatures I have seen and purchased have slight bends on long narrow parts ie. Memoirs 44 tank barrels, X-Wing laser cannon barrels, etc. I could have lived with the creased base card but a bent and torn rules book and broken mast, I just got the careless packer at the manufacturer. I'm not upset, it's just bad luck. It could have been any of you. Actually, if it were only the ship model, I probably wouldn't have said anything but a torn book, now I gotta say something.

I agree with you, the torn book and bent card I would have asked for a replacement on. On your ship, I would have asked for a new one as well because of the main mast. It looks broken and not just bent (like the fore mast).

Thanks for the comment Keith. I just pre-ordered series 7 but now I see it is delayed. Oh well, now I have time to learn this game, especially since the play mats are due to arrive today. I'm really excited to see the new foam storage trays. Keep us posted.

Mats are a separate shipment. I think three mats is correct. I thought I ordered an additional one to have a set of four. It has been awhile since I thought about the actual order contents.

Edit: I just checked, and I ordered two extra mats, so that has me thinking that we only get two with the Commodore level - makes more sense with everything being doubled.

Commodore gets two sets of the following:

So two game mats total

Hi Bob,

I was editing my post when you posted. I think 2 mats is correct.

Thanks all! So now I'm just waiting on the 2 boxes for my EB Commodore. Looks like I'll be ordering 2 extra mats via the Accessories store. :)

You and me both, Carlos. There are hints that Ares will be doing a special edition of the Santissima Trinidad comparable to the Victory and Constitution. Just rumors actually, but they do know some of us want our Spanish ships; Santa Ana, Montanes, Príncipe de Asturias, Rayo, etc. etc.

I think four mats are a good amount, especially for cons. Having run games at two events, I think two mats would limit maneuverability, especially if one has a 10-12 players. In the one game, I had 8 players, but we had a line of merchant ships going across the playing surface as well. Having both length and width to the playing surface really helped make for a more fluid game.

UPS just dropped off my 2 Captain boxes, so with the 2 mats already in hand my EB Commodore KS order is complete!! Yahoo!!! The boxes are both frigid cold so I'm not going to do anything with them until they reach room temperature.

I'm off to post something on KS now, so others know of the good news, and the fact that there was never a notice from the warehouse (or UPS) concerning shipping.

Don't you mean "Where are the Russians?" >;)

Besides: You know if you talk about what you want where Ares can hear it, that just delays its arrival that much more. (I think Ares borrowed GW's "Squat Clock". ;) )

The good news is that ships have landed. Yay!!

The not-so-good is that while the Capt level stuff, the extra smokes and the mats came, the extra Lt. level package I ordered did not arrive and no more shipments are in the UPS system.

Any thoughts? At what point should I assume there was a problem and escalate, vs. assuming that the shipping process is still creaking and grinding forward and will spit out my Lt kit at some point?

ps--these are really eye-pleasing ships!

I would not be too concerned at present. It is obvious that the distribution channel is not running smoothly. If a week goes by and you have not heard anything, then I would suggest contacting Ares. It seems that the core packages are shipped in a certain way, with additional packages being shipped separately.

No e-mail and no boxes here in Oakland, CA.

On the other hand, the fact that many backers are receiving their shipments even without an e-mail notice makes me hopeful I will receive something tomorrow or early next week.

Ed, my usual trick for War at Sea "banana boats" was to rubberband them to a popsicle-stick as a "splint", dunk 'em in hot water then toss 'em in the freezer for an hour.

Would skewers make good splints for SGN masts?

I think puttin' 'em alcohol would work better than hot water. One for me...one for the ships...one for me...one for the ships... In the end you wouldn't really care if it worked or not!

I think they are just now starting on the Lt. packages. It appears that they sent out all of the Capt. based levels first. So straight up Capt went first, followed by Capt with some extras, followed by Commodores. Since there were more Capt levels ordered than anything else, it makes sense they would start there (it clears out the warehouse faster). The next largest group was Lt level based orders, so they should be reaching port very soon I would think. I'm not sure how or when they are doing the lower levels like Mate and Gunners. I also think Admiral level (that's retail stores) are going out last even though they are just 3x Capt pledges. Neither my self or my FLGS owner has gotten our KS orders.

While I don't fault your logic, reality tells me otherwise... at least in my case. I pledged EB Captain, and have yet to receive any product... or word of any such product. Should I be patient, or should I be contacting Ares? Note: I did receive the N/A email on the 27th.

Not necessarily true, I received my Lt. pack the week before Christmas and the mats the week after. I'm also just down 80/94, in Chicago, from the Fort Wayne warehouse.

How many extras did you add on, if any? Barring any delays at the warehouse for you order, there are still other factors that could be causing the delay. From what I have seen, you are not the only Capt to still be waiting. At this point I think contacting Ares would be all but pointless. Since shipping is still going on, the most likely response is going to be they don't know if yours has shipped yet or not. I'm sure they could place an enquiry with the warehouse, but I don't think the warehouse is going to make it a priority over getting other packages out the door. I can only imagine the through put drop if they had to start checking for everyone's shipment that asked about it. lol

I would not put any stock into the tracking emails. Ares was trying to throw the backers a bone by providing that info, and it has backfired on them. From what I understand, the warehouse writes down all the tracking numbers and then emails it to Ares. Ares then turns around and emails each person individually about their shipment. It's simply too easy for the factory to accidentally leave off a tracking number here or there and then too easy for Ares to miss sending out an email here or there. Factor in the delay of getting emails out between those two groups and nothing becomes certain any longer :(

As hard as it is, I'd wait for the all finished call from Ares +4 days before I contacted them if my shipment had not shown up yet.

Got my EB Capt. with extras yesterday (sat in our UPS facility in town from Monday at Oh-Dark-Hundred until 11am Thursday when they allowed me to pick it up - they were closed Tuesday and Wednesday for New Years eve/day, and were a day behind logging shipments to get it Monday.
