Over Thanksgiving weekend I was in Baltimore and paid a visit to the USS Constellation. I suppose this is more for the ACW naval crowd out there since she is actually a sloop of war built in 1854. The rigging is similar to earlier ships though. Here are some photos:

Note that the futtock shrouds are not fully rigged and on Napoleonic ships parrels would be used to attach the spar to the mast not chains. 7920

I also saw the Pride of Baltimore II and will post those photos later.

Great photos. I visited her years ago when my folks visited. Myself (6'2"), dad (6') and wife (5'8" she is Thai) went on the ship. She walked around like she was in a normal room while dad and me were hunched over when below decks. When you visit these ships it gives you a good understanding on life aboard one of these ships. When I was in the Army I went to my school in Mass and visited the Constitution while there so can say I have been on the oldest ship in the US Navy.

Thank you for posting these Eric. The next time Sue and I are in Baltimore, we'll have to make a visit.

The few times we have been there, we had several fine meals at a place called the Blue Agave.
