One of my other hobby interests is RC modeling, although it's primarily one of observation, not participation. Money, time and space are required for many of the ship builds, but I do enjoy seeing what folks create in the Scale Ships section of RCGroups.com.

I just stumbled on this thread as I've not been to these forums in some time (focused on the small ships after all). An incredible gentleman from Belgium (Lucc) has scratch built a 1/50 scale RC model of the Santissima Trinidad. This work just blew me away so I had to share. If you make it through all pages of the thread you'll also see someone from Germany has build a 1/50 scale RC model of the HMS Victory.

I'll stick to the small stuff, but the craftsmanship, innovation and quality here are amazing.

Enjoy!

That's really incredible work, thanks for linking to that Jim! It's really neat not only to see the model taking shape but also to read about all the considerations that go in to building a remote control ship. The latter is not something I have any experience with, so it's all the more intriguing. Really beautiful work all around.

Lucc finally had a successful maiden voyage of the Santissima Trinidad. Some really fantastic photos at the end of this long thread. I think I'll be using his work as a reference for painting my Langton version. Enjoy!

WOW...I have seen the WWII RC ships before where they actually fire at one another, but never sailing ships before. I am amazed at how stable they appear.

Stunning. I would love to see her up-close.

The picture with the fountain in the background almost looks like she's fired a shot.

I hadn't noticed the fountain effect, but you're right, it does look like a broadside.

You may recall this thread of the awesome 1/50 scale RC build of the Santisima Trinidad. Well, Lucc took her out for a sail at the end of September. Here's the short video from YouTube. Enjoy!

Hi Jim,
The youtube link keeps kicking me out and force closes the internet on my cell. Can you post the clip title so I can search it on my youtube app? Santissima Trinidad doesn't bring it up. Thanks.

Here's the url if that helps? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FrTqLR1jXXM

Hmmm, I typed in Santisima Trinidad in my youtube search and came up with just about everything but this one. I will try the url one more time when I get back to the room on near an open wyfi. Streaming video is blocked where I am now. Thanks Jim.

Try typing in Santisima Trinidad and lc6773 together. It should show up right at the top then.
