No, I'll be saving all my money for GenCon. Have a great time, take lots of pictures and fill us in on all the game play.

In costume or street clothes?

Well I went to Origins 1996, but from what I can tell it's a shadow of what it used to be with respect to historical gaming of any kind.

From reading various forums, Gencon seems the best unless you want pure board gaming then the annual consimworld monster game expo in Tempe Arizona seems the go. They have just had this from May27- 2 June and it gives attendees the opportunity to play huge games over a week. Now as an idea this might be a nice venue for a major campaign game of SOG, perhaps using a board game such as 1805, or other strategic game of the period to generate the naval battles. It would allow enough time and enough players to have a truly large battle.

Possible campaigns could be Trafalgar, West Indies, Suffren in India, War of Independence, even earlier Anglo-Dutch wars or Seven Years War.

Food for thought for next year.

I can just see me showing up as Richthofen or Hull. Something tells me my time on the 'Drome and the Anchorage could come to an abrupt end.

I'll be working in the exhibit hall for Profantasy Software. I'll be playing/helping out as much as possible with the rest of the Buckeye Gamers. :rum:

...of course I'll be working Gencon also.

I'll be working in the exhibit hall for Profantasy Software.

I initially read that as Profanity Software. It took a reread to figure out what your exhibit would be. Will you be playing any WoG or SoG events?

Ha. I know folks who would really appreciate that one.

Looking forward to meeting you Tommy.

I will take pictures Jim, though I don't know if I will be able to upload them while there. We were planning on Gen-Con as well, but I am teaching an intensive that week, so hopefully next year. I attended Gen-Con in the late 70s. I can't imagine how big it is now. I hope you have a good time there.

Ares has been at several events in Europe recently, but there haven't been a lot of pictures showing up online; either on their website or elsewhere. Anything you get at Origins will be much appreciated and there are no worries about posting while the con is still in progress. What has shown up I've linked from their site:

GenCon is only 2 months away and the excitement to play SoG (and hopefully get my ships) is really starting to build.

It is like with every grainy photo, the bottom of the hourglass fills and we get closer to release.

Thanks! You must be wandering the dealer room at this point, if not already playing a SoG demo. Enjoy!

Played a demo game of SoG this evening. If you are a WoG player, you will find that SoG takes the game mechanics to another level. It is definitely a game to grow into. The basic rules will enable most anyone to pickup the game relatively quickly. The additional rules will add some good complexity. We played with the basic games rules plus a little. It was a blast. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves very much, a few of whom have never played WoG either. I am even more excited for the release. I truly believe my gaming friends will thoroughly enjoy SoG, and Sue seemed to get into it, despite only observing. Most importantly, I missed the island.

Thank you for the update Eric. So far I've heard a good deal of positive feedback about actually playing the game and it's mechanics. The anticipation keeps building.

And the excitement builds! Has anyone asked Ares if production is still on track for an August release? Hard to believe, but GenCon, and the anticipated release are just around the corner.
